Training Information

As professionals we have an ongoing responsibility to ensure we are engaging in continuing professional development. Whether you are looking to raise awareness of mental health issues, to support and promote active listening or a psychologically-minded workforce, good training can empower staff to build on their existing skills and use their creativity to develop them further. Training doesn’t just need to be for professional development. It may be your team faces a particular challenge or difficulty, and training can help you to overcome that. Read more below for how LINKAT Psychology can help you to meet your training needs.

What sort of training do you offer?

The training service we offer to support your work can be tailored to meet your needs. It is often useful to have initial discussion to determine the subject, level, and intended audience for your training. There is further information on how to do this below, as well as some examples of training we can offer.

Working toward a trauma-informed workforce

NHS Education for Scotland have produced new guidance that stipulates everyone in a customer-facing role can benefit from being trauma-informed. This means that they have an awareness of the types of trauma people can face in everyday life, and how these experiences might present in everyday settings. Furthermore, such training provides guidance on how to support and signpost individuals who have experienced trauma. This training is typically delivered in a seminar-style format, with a slidekit and group tasks to consolidate learning. Training duration can vary depending on workforce needs, though would usually be a minimum of two hours.

Mental health first aid / Mental health awareness

As awareness of the prevalence of mental health difficulties increases, more and more workplaces are looking to train staff in the basics of recognising and understanding difficulties associated with poor mental health. Training involves raising awareness and breaking down stigma attached to such difficulties. It also supports skills development in empathic listening and supporting colleagues who are experiencing such difficulties. The format of this training can be adapted based on your needs, from hands-on group exercises to a more didactic style, though we have found a combination of these works well. Training duration can vary depending on workforce needs, though would usually be a minimum of two hours.

Disorder-specific training

Designed for schools, clubs, colleges, or other academic institutions, this type of training provides uniquely tailored advice to help the people and systems around an individual support them best. This might be useful if a school is enrolling a pupil with specific needs they have not encountered before. Alternatively, staff may be looking for more training in supporting pupils or students struggling with anxiety or low mood. The most flexible of our training approaches, the format and duration of training is entirely negotiable and we will work with you to determine the best approach to meet your needs.

Safeguarding and Child Protection

Our Safeguarding advisor, Mrs Susan Sevier provides training on topics related to safeguarding and child protection.

We currently have a pre-recorded primary level training for those that work therapeutically with adults. This is £40 and gives you access for six months.

Our intermediate level child protection training for those that work therapeutically with adults is run ‘live’, online. This only runs once or twice a year and spaces go quickly.

Where do I access training, and how much does it cost?

We will work with you to identify the best location to deliver training, whether that means coming to you or hiring a venue. We will travel anywhere within the UK to deliver training, however given our base is in the Tayside and Fife region of Scotland, training that is to be delivered more than 100 miles from our base will also incur costs for accommodation.

As with our other tailored services, costs may vary considerably depending on the nature of training you require. As a rough guide, our hourly rate for training is £100 per trainer per hour. However, factors such as travel, equipment required, and the level and duration of training will also be incorporated into any quote provided.
